Challenges: Mr. Gillotti came to the SBDC in September of 2005 with concerns about the company profitability and the increasing cost of manufacturing that was eroding his earnings, along with a desire to grow the business at a better rate than he has recently experienced. Actions Taken: Mr. Gillotti worked with Counselor Harlan Hanson on a review of the company financial statements and the bill of materials for the primary products. The client with an increased understanding of his costs and his financial statements was able to improve his Gross Profit through better controls and through purchasing changes on key elements of his primary products. Michael and Harlan have continued quarterly review of the financial statements and looked for ways to deal with short-term changes in product demand without losing key employees during these times.

Results:

The company has grown in the last two years from annual sales of mid-six figures to well over low-seven figures. Annual earnings have doubled and employment has increased from 13 to 21 employees during two years. Michael has personally directed a very successful broadening of his market with sales to the Red Cross units throughout the United States.
